THE SHORE OF PROMISES

For my master’s graduate short film, I directed and co-produced this fantasy family short combining live action and stop-motion animation. Specialising in directing during my master’s programme, I wrote the script inspired by a personal life experience, with a key research goal throughout the project being to develop my identity and visual approach as a director through practice-based filmmaking. I worked closely with key creative departments, from cinematography and production design to sound, to develop a cohesive visual style and tone for the film. The crew consisted of 25 people, independently assembled through crew outreach and talent sourcing.

As co-producer, I assisted in securing approval for production documentation, including child actor safeguarding paperwork, arranged location permits across four filming locations, and supported transport and logistical coordination over four shooting days. I also managed social media content and crowdfunding activities, successfully raising £720 through a two-month campaign.

In post-production, I planned and scheduled a four-week stop-motion production period in collaboration with two stop-motion artists, contributing to the creation and execution of the stop-motion animation. I also held weekly check-ins with the editor, sound mixer, and colour grader to support post-production progress.
